The starting dose is 2.5mg for the first month and is then gradually increased each month until the maximum dose of 15mg. It’s licensed for a maintenance dose of 5, 10 or 15mg. What’s the Evidence?

Mounjaro is a licensed medication for weight loss that’s backed up by science. There have been a number of  trials and studies done that show that it is effective in helping people lose weight.

20-25%

One study published in the prestigious journal JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association and the most widely read medical journal in the world, found that people lost up to 20-25% of their body weight after one year on Mounjaro ¹

6X

Another study found that people on Mounjaro lost up to 6 times more weight than those not taking placebo ²

How does it work?

While Wegovy (and Ozempic – they are the same medication) act on a single receptor (GLP-1), Mounjaro is slightly different as it activates two receptors – the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These receptors are involved in regulating blood sugar levels and curbing appetite.

How do I start?

When you complete the medical consultation form, you’ll be asked about your medical history to ensure that it is suitable and safe to prescribe weight loss medications for you.

Towards the end of the consultation, you’ll be asked if you would like Wegovy or Mounjaro. If you aren’t sure, then you can select the ‘let my prescriber decide’ button and the prescriber will look through all your answers and prescribe the medication they think is most suitable for you based on the information you have provided.

What happens when I need my next pen?

Each pen lasts for 4 weeks. Two weeks before your pen runs out, we will email you with a link to a form to complete in order to get your next pen. This form will ask how things have gone for you on your current dose, any side effects and will ask you to check your weight. It will also ask you if you are happy to increase the dose, as per the titration regime. This will then be reviewed by one of our prescribers and they will then prescribe your next pen. If they have any questions they will contact you directly.
