Our Story
We have seen first-hand how hard it can be for patients to lose weight and the devastating effects obesity can have on people’s long term health and well-being. However, we have also seen how new medications have helped people on their weight loss journey, especially people who have struggled with dieting and exercise in the past.
We feel passionately about helping people live happy, healthy lives and want to help people who have struggled with their weight to take control and make a change for good.
We want everyone to be able to make the most of medical advances in weight loss and be able to access the new medications that are revolutionising the way people get to a healthy weight. With this in mind, we aim to keep costs as low as possible and offer a comprehensive service that allows people to get these medications delivered directly to their door, while also providing help and support around the changes necessary to make the most of these medications.
We love hearing from our customers so if you have any question, concerns or thoughts, then do feel free to get in touch.
Dr Max Pemberton
Dr Max is a medical doctor, working full time as a consultant in the NHS. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and an elected fellow of the World Psychiatric Association. He works in mental health and has spent over 10 years working in specialist eating disorder services, and has worked with a wide range of patients who have difficult relationships with food, including overweight and obese patients. He has also run group therapy treatment programmes for patients with eating disorders and disordered eating. While working in eating disorders he would often be referred patients who were overweight yet who the NHS were unable to offer much more than advice about weight management.
While these patients were often very distressed and troubled by their weight and keen to make changes to their lifestyle, the NHS was often unable to provide specialist support and input for them. As a result, he became interested in combining advances in medication with psychological support to help patients lose weight, improve their health and change their relationship with food. Dr Max is also a writer and journalist. He is a columnist for the Daily Mail, Readers Digest and a regular contributor to the Spectator. Prior to moving to the Daily Mail, he was a columnist for the Daily Telegraph for 12 years. Dr Max is our CEO and co-founder.
Rhiannon Doyle
Rhiannon trained as a midwife in the NHS, where she cared for obese pregnant women in high-risk maternity wards and out in the community. Through this experience, she gained insights into the unique health needs of this group of patients. She also discovered that many of the women she assisted had struggled with their weight for years and the NHS had limited resources to help them make meaningful changes to their weight and overall health. She was struck by the way that they often had low self-esteem and self-worth and now has a strong interest in empowering patients to take control of their weight and help improve their health, well-being and confidence.
She ventured into web design and development, transitioning away from her midwifery career to support e-commerce companies, before joining Max in setting up Slimmr. Rhiannon and Max went to school together and have been friends since they were 12 years old! They have always wanted to work together and set up Slimmr together as they both feel passionately about helping people on their weight loss journey. Rhiannon is our CTO and cofounder.
